  It is characterized by 5 elements: an activity that people choose to do freely, of their own accord; without being remunerated (volunteering is a free act without financial or material compensation); who speaks to others, outside the family or friends circle (notion of altruism); in the service of the general interest, regardless of age, sex, origin, education or socio-economic status; generally in an organized framework, a non-profit organization (associations, foundations, etc.)

  confirmation by a competent authority that the outcomes of learning (knowledge, skills and / or competences) acquired by an individual in a formal, non-formal or informal context have been assessed according to defined criteria and comply with the requirements of a validation standard (or reference).
